1. Why Chapter One for my child?

At Chapter One, we look into the learning needs of each child before we recommend an appropriate programme. As your child starts with Chapter One, you can trust him/ her with our experienced, dedicated and caring teachers. We provide close monitoring of your child's progress and work with you on how to help your child to learn better and faster.

At Chapter One, your child will feel that he/she is part of our family.

Our comprehensive curriculum guides and develops a child's potential in the Chinese language. We balance “hard skills” learning with lively practices; intensive vocabulary enrichment with games, comprehension exercise with meaningful group discussions, enabling the child to acquire thorough language skills.

Our teachers believe in nurturing your child a rich and meaningful appreciation of the Chinese language. We aim at helping your child to master the language academically in school by focusing on problem area he/she has in that area. We also believe in making Chinese to be a real and practical part of their lives, by introducing your child to the adventure of the Chinese language, stimulating his/her interest and encouraging further explorations.

2. How different is Chapter One Learning Centre to other Chinese tuition centres?

Balance” is the theme of our school, programme and approach. While Chinese tuition centres concentrate on means to achieve academically results, we believe that Chinese is not just a subject in school, but a personal communication skill which remains a life-long asset. At Chapter One, we believe that every child can be confident and fluent in Chinese. While we help them academically, we build their confidence and interest. We let them appreciate the experience of having additional pair of eyes, ears and mouth when they know the Chinese language.

Chapter One offers two main groups of programmes. The first group is MOE-syllabus based programes with enrichment content. The other group is core language skills programmes along with content that stimulates a child's interest in the Language and encourages further explorations on the elements of Chinese arts and culture. 3. What can a pre-school child benefit from attending the programmes at Chapter-One?

Firstly, our Sunrise Word Recognition class prepares a child with word recognition skills through rhymes and games. Your child will be having so much fun in the class that he/she will not even realise that he/she is learning Chinese characters. This programme grounds the children with word recognition skill and helps them overcome fears and unfamiliarity of the Chinese characters. With such a foundation laid out in your child's pre-school years, he/she will not find Chinese language a difficult subject in school.

Word recognition is a critical tool for reading, hence a basis to cultivate reading habit early. Last be not least, our Word Recognition programme provides a Chinese ‘play’ environment for immersion and at the same time stimulate a child'sinterest to learn.

Our Little Cool People programme prepares K2 children for the different learning requirements in Primary school. We strengthen their comprehension and expression skills through more stories, widen their vocabulary exposure to a large environment beyond self and family. We also prepare them with key learning points and knowledge required in MOE-P1 syllabus.

4. What are the qualifications and qualities of Chapter One's teachers?

Our teachers are graduates from reputable education colleges either from Singapore or China. In addition to teaching experience in China, they have more than 8 years of teaching experience in Singapore. Hence, all our teachers have deep understanding of the challenges and common problems Singaporean kids face in learning Chinese. As some of our children who have been to other language centres said, “Chapter one teachers cares for me!”.

Our non-Chinese-speaking parents find it very helpful that our teachers can provide them with valuable insights and information on Chinese language, syllabus requirements and closely monitor and feedback on their children’s progress.

11. What are the differences between Chinese in Action and Language Builder? How do I determine which is best for my child?

Language Builder targets at school syllabus, where we reinforce knowledge and address difficulties faced by a child to perform academically. We also enrich the content with more reading and comprehension.

Chinese in Action helps to "balance" the academic area. We encourage children to express their mind, feeling and knowledge in Chinese through speaking, writing and other various activities. Through these activities, a child uses Chinese in a real way, not just learning the language to pass an examination. It is a journey to express, experience and explore.

We have a range of workshops to enrich your child in a fun and different way.

Language Builder and Chinese in Action complement each other to achieve a balanced language development for your child. Click here to read more about these two programmes.
